The Isle of Man Constabulary have received reports that local businesses are being contacted and offered an opportunity to purchase advertising space in what has been described as being a ‘Police’ related publication. In several cases the caller has implied that the publication is linked to the Isle of Man Constabulary.
Constable Radcliffe, the force Crime Reduction Officer, stated: ‘I would wish to make it clear to the public that whilst we have previously worked in conjunction with UK based companies to produce policing related publications, the Isle of Man Constabulary is not currently producing any publications. Therefore any company making such an offer has no links to the force and is not working on our behalf.
As with all business transactions, you should never disclose any financial information during a ‘cold call’ telephone conversation and should request full details in writing prior to agreeing to take up any offer. Further advice can be obtained by contacting Police Headquarters on 631212 or from the Office of Fair Trading on 686500’
