Douglas’s North Quay will be the setting for outdoor markets in July, August and October.
The events build on the success of last year’s summer and Christmas markets and will take place on Saturday July 30, August 27 and October 1 from 10am to 6pm.
Supported by Douglas Development Partnership and Douglas Borough Council, the markets are being co-ordinated by Chris Carr who said: ‘These are the original “real McCoy” Douglas markets and, building on the success of last year’s markets, are set to be even bigger and better, not least because they’ll be taking place along the full length of North Quay, from the Clarendon right up to the junction with Quine’s Corner. The regenerated North Quay is proving a fantastic setting for outdoor events so for these markets we’re looking to create a real party atmosphere.’
Mr Carr is taking bookings for market pitches and will be in Douglas market between 12noon and 1pm every Saturday in May to accept bookings, provide details of prices and issue passes. Alternatively he can be contacted on 365880 or by emailing chistophercarr06@aol.com.
Douglas town centre manager Gill Anderson said: ‘Last year’s outdoor markets proved a huge success for the public, stall holders and surrounding businesses, many reporting record trading, so this year we’re inviting buskers and all types of street entertainers to take part as well – performers such as vocalists, musicians, jugglers, magicians, “living statues”, acrobats or poets – anyone, in fact, who feels they can add to the carnival atmosphere.’
Street entertainment slots are provided free of charge. Applicants should indicate the duration for which the slot will be required and apply to Gill Anderson, ganderson@douglas.org.im , telephone 612022, or call in to Douglas Development Partnership, 7-13 Victoria Street, Douglas.
