Microsoft Telephone Scam

The OFT has been made aware of a telephone scam, with callers alleging to be from Microsoft.

The caller claims to be from Microsoft and informs you that your computer has been compromised, and may ask you to log on to your computer. In reality, the caller is simply trying to obtain your personal and/or financial details to enable them to carry out further fraudulent activities.

The Office of Fair Trading advises members of the public to put the phone down, and to not engage with these individuals.

Please warn your family, friends and neighbours about this scam.

Further information and advice on ‘Scams’ in general can be found on the OFT’s website or by calling the Office on +44 1624 686500.

Action Fraud’s website http://www.actionfraud.police.uk is also an excellent source of information and advice about the many different types of scams and how to avoid them.
