A TOWN centre business should soon have a new look thanks to an improvement grant from Douglas Council.

The Book Company on Castle Street will soon have a smart new heritage frontage costing £15,000, half of which has been funded by the grant.

The money from the Town and Village Centre Regeneration fund is given to help businesses improve their exteriors.

Book Company owner Spencer Benham said: ‘All the indications are that Douglas is gradually on the up and, as traders, I believe it’s important we do all we can to raise the image of the town centre.

‘Thanks to the grant we’ve been able to go for a more ambitious scheme and have opted for a “heritage” design that is a contemporary interpretation of Douglas’s Victorian past.

‘Hopefully once the work’s completed it will serve as a catalyst to other traders to improve the façades of their premises and alert them to the grants available.’

Council leader David Christian said he welcomed Mr Benham’s work and was pleased he had availed himself of the grant available.

Details of how to apply for funding can be found at www.gov.im/ded/Regeneration. or from Chris Pycroft, of Douglas Development Partnership on 612022
