THE Isle of Man Council of Voluntary Organisations officially opened its new training programme to charity, voluntary and faith organisations at the island’s new iMuseum.

Working to provide a voice for the ‘third sector’, the council is a local body whose membership is made up of charity, voluntary and faith groups in the island.

Its latest development is an exciting new training programme specifically developed by the CVO in association with the Children’s Centre and the Department of Economic Development.

The courses aim to provide a series of training opportunities to ‘third sector’ and statutory organisations but can be opened up to a wider audience.

Courses available include effective fundraising skills, industrial relations Q & A, influential presentation skills, developing your teams and effective mentoring and cover a two-year period starting on Friday (February 25).

Thanks to the support from the government, course fees have been kept low in order to make them available to all.

Economic Development Minister Allan Bell MHK opened the launch and gave praise to the third sector for the added value it brings to the economy and also to the residents of the Isle of Man for their community spirit and generous support of our island’s charities.

Manx National Heritage will open the doors to the new iMuseum complex situated in Kingswood Grove in Douglas in March.

The new museum facility provides a completely new level of access to the Isle of Man’s national archives.

It will include digital access to Manx newspapers from the 1790s to 1960, searchable by key word and date, photographs from the 1850s onwards, names from the Isle of Man Census 1841 to 1901 and sound recordings of native Manx Gaelic speakers from the 1950s.
