Planning applications move online

Online planning applications

People can now submit planning applications online via the Isle of Man Government website

It follows a commitment made in the 2018 Planning Action Plan to introduce electronic submissions in 2020 and make the planning system more digitally efficient and accessible.

The move follows a successful trial of the new process.

It is the latest in a range of improvements to the planning system that the Department has delivered over the last three years, including the introduction of the minor changes applications and the ability for applicants to answer questions at public meetings of the planning committee.

Geoffrey Boot MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, said:

‘I am pleased that we have been able to take another step in improving our IT processes, and to contribute to the Government’s corporate digital strategy.

‘Whilst I acknowledge that some customers may still wish to submit their applications in hard paper copy format, and this is still acceptable, I hope that many of our customers will take advantage of the new service.’

A similar provision for building control applications will be introduced shortly.

Reform of the Island’s planning system is being progressed in line with the Programme for Government objective of supporting sustainable growth.
